History

The Metropolitan Clay Target Club was formed in the late 1930’s and operated at its original home ground at Sharps Road in North Coburg and was well known as Coburg Gun Club. In 1963, because of the encroachment of suburbia, the membership of the club purchased approximately 25 acres on the current site at 20 Vearings Road, Epping. Two skeet fields and two trap fields were constructed and competitions started towards the end of that year.

In the mid 1980’s, because of the increasing popularity of simulated field shooting, some of the founding members of the Epping membership formed the Metropolitan Field and Game Club (MCTC). Its membership was primarily drawn from the Clay Target Club.

In the course of its 70 year history, the Clay Target and Field and Game Clubs have produced State, National and International Champions in the clay target shooting arena. Metropolitan Clay Target Club members have set national and international records and represented Australia throughout the world.

We have had two female representatives in the Australian Olympic Development Team and a junior male (U/21) in the Australian ISSF (Olympic) Double Trap Development Squad. In addition we have another former Junior Australian representative and multiple Victorian State Team members.
